High-Efficiency Biopesticides Poised for Growth

Alternatives to synthetic pesticides are needed: development times and costs for synthetic pesticides are >10 years and >$ 300 million, respectively. Existing products have been withdrawn from markets for environmental safety reasons. Biopesticides can be provide a sustainable option to augment current pest control tools. Emerging technologies such as peptide-based biopesticides and RNA-based biopesticides have this potential. Vestaron developed a unique pipeline of peptide-based bio-insecticides with the efficacy of synthetics. Greenlight Biosciences developed a revolutionary system to produce RNA for pest and disease control in agriculture. The US EPA recently established an Emerging Technologies Branch to better handle the registration of such novel products. This panel will discuss technical aspects, products and market potential of emerging technology-based bio-pesticides.
