  • Greg Smith, Croda,
  • Daniel MacEachran, Braskem,
  • Martin Wolf, Seventh Generation

This session will engage audience members in discussion about seven metrics regarding the contributions of the biobased products industry in the United States:

(i) the quantity of biobased products sold;

(ii) the value of the biobased products;

(iii) the quantity of jobs contributed;

(iv) the quantity of petroleum displaced;

(v) other environmental benefits;

(vi) the economic impacts of biobased exports; and

(vii) areas in which the use or manufacturing of biobased products could be more effectively used, including identifying any technical and economic obstacles and recommending how those obstacles can be overcome.

There have been several studies on the contribution of the biobased products sector to the global and European economies. This report contains USDA's most recent findings to quantify the effect of the US biobased products industry from economic, job, and environmental perspectives; provides updates to past reports; and contains new info about bioproduct exports.
