BBI JU: A model of international collaboration impacting the EU bio-based industries

This session will highlight how international collaboration can drive sustainable economic growth taking the example of the Bio-based Industries Joint Undertaking (BBI JU), a unique € 3.7bn Public-Private Partnership created in Europe to invest in R&I projects in the bio-based industries. The session will address how international cooperation can support R&I and industry deployment, thus reducing Europe’s dependency on fossil-based products and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals globally. By developing collaborative business models and convincing brand owners to engage in creating new markets and products from renewable resources, BBI JU has a positive impact not only on the economy and scientific advancements, but also on the environment at both regional and international level. Furthermore, it will be discussed how a competitive bio-based sector can set Europe and its innovation hubs at the forefront of green technology, innovation and markets.
